  • A $22 million expansion is under way at Kalahari Resort (419.433.7759; www.kalahariresorts.com/oh) in Sandusky and slated for completion by December.

    Upgrades will include the addition of a 38,000-square-foot ballroom and exposition center, a 12,000-square-foot junior ballroom, 14 meeting rooms, a 4,000-square-foot outdoor plaza and 30,000 square feet of indoor function space. When finished, the property will offer 215,000 square feet of convention space. As the largest hotel in the state of Ohio, the property encompasses 256 acres and offers 884 guest rooms, an indoor water park, an outdoor adventure park, a spa and a zoo-like park with African animals on display.

  • Sawmill Creek Resort (419.433.3800; www.sawmillcreek.com) recently completed a soft goods upgrade to its guest rooms. Located on 235 acres in Huron, the property offers 236 guest rooms and 50,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space.

  • The 64-room Fairfield Inn Port Clinton (419.732.2434; www.marriott.com) recently completed a renovation. The property is located near Cedar Point and offers a meeting room for up to 36 guests.

  • Soft good upgrades are under way at the Holiday Inn Express Port Clinton-Catawba Island (419.732.7322; www.holidayinn.com) and slated for completion by late fall. The 102-room property offers one large meeting room and one smaller room for private group gatherings.

  • Put-in-Bay Resort & Conference Center (419.285.7427; www.putinbayresort.com) on South Bass Island recently added 13 villas to its inventory. Each villa sleeps up to 10 people and includes three bathrooms and a full kitchen. The property offers 68 guest rooms, conference facilities for up to 450 delegates and an outdoor pool.

  • Cedar Point (419.627.2350; www.cedarpoint.com), widely known as one of the largest amusement parks in the world, welcomed Shoot the Rapids in 2010. The $10.5 million ride includes a 2,100-foot-long experience that concludes with a “shoot” from rapids of water.
