Disney is on the move with a historic amount of new projects throughout its destination empire, according to highlights from its D23 fan club event held at California’s Anaheim Convention Center in August.
“We’re in the largest growth period in the history of Walt Disney Hotels & Resorts,” said Anne Hamilton, vice president, Resort Sales & Services, Disney Destinations.
The splashiest new projects include the opening of the Aulani resort in Hawaii; breaking ground on a massive new park in Shanghai; an expansion of its California Adventure theme park in Anaheim, Calif., at a cost of more than $1 billion; rolling out a massively “re-imagined” Disneyland Hotel with mid-century modern design and thoroughly modernized guest rooms with fiber-optic flourishes; and the announcement of a complete makeover of the Fantasyland section of Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
The Disneyland Hotel project earned the property a AAA Four Diamond award, making it the only hotel in Anaheim with the designation.
