New Downtown Hotel Gives Boost to Charleston, W. Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The addition of a new hotel in downtown Charleston won't necessarily guarantee the city can attract more and larger events, "but it definitely won't hurt," said Jama Jarrett, communications director for the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The four-story Marriott Courtyard hotel will have 110 rooms and sits about two blocks from the Civic Center, according to local officials. Completion of the hotel, which is slated for 2014, will bring the total room count in downtown to 1,538 room, according to Jarrett. It would bring the total number of downtown hotels to eight.

Charleston has 19 hotels with about 3,500 rooms outside the downtown area.
