Hotels in Chicago have promised to make more than $500 million in improvements. Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the investments Friday, the same day that city unions agreed to changes at McCormick Place.
The work rule changes that will make the city's massive convention center a friendlier and cheaper place for companies and industries. During a meeting between Emanuel, his staff and several large Chicago hotels this week, hoteliers said more than $500 million in investments will be made as a result of the McCormick Place announcement.
Hyatt Regency Chicago general manager Patrick Donelly says the McCormick Place deal with unions gives the city's hotel industry "reason to move forwad with improving our assets."
