SANTA CRUZ, Calif.
After being taken over by new owners, the University Inn & Conference Center is scheduled to undergo an upgrade and reopen in May. Previously available mostly for extra housing for the University of California-Santa Cruz campus, the property will become an “independent boutique hotel,” according to David Issel, vice president of operations for BPR Properties, the new owner.
The 172-room spot features 5,000 square feet of conference space and is close to the city’s center. Free Wi Fi access is available at the center. "It has tremendous potential because of its proximity to downtown and the beach," says city Mayor Ryan Coonerty.
Adds Bill Tysseling, executive director of the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce, “This is one of Santa Cruz's premier visitor-serving opportunity sites. He also commends BPR Properties "best-of-class operating philosophy."
