A widely publicized Justice Department report claiming that government officials were charged $16 a muffin at the Capitol Hilton back in 2009 – which prompted much scorn of meetings a few months back -- has been discredited.
DOJ last week admitted it made a mistake in the September audit that prompted the report, saying in part “after further review, and after discussions with the Hilton and the department, we concluded that our initial conclusions were incorrect and the Department did not pay $16 per muffin. We regret the error in our initial report.”
The Capitol Hilton has contended all along that the group was charged $14.29 per day, per person for continental breakfast – which includes juice, fruit, muffins and coffee. Hilton officials declined further comment.
