NEW YORK, NY
Adding cache to an already-avant-garde hotel, the Cooper Square Hotel—in Manhattan’s East Village—has become the Standard, East Village. The 21-story glass and steel tower, featuring 145 rooms, has been bought by Standard Hotels.
Plans for the newly acquired property, according to a statement by Standard, which already oversees the Standard in the city’s popular Union Square area, include “refurbishing the rooms, revamping the restaurant and reimagining the public spaces."
With the elder hotel in the brand known in part for its nightclub, “the Boom-Boom Room,” Standard Hotels is promising to make its newest baby a more quiet spot—looking, perhaps, to appeal to business travelers and an upscale clientele.
“Unlike The Standard, New York, this East side counterpart, located on the corner of East 5th Street and Bowery at Cooper Square, is going to be a more mellow alternative to all the boom in your West side room."
