  • The $2 billion City Creek Center (www.shopcitycreekcenter.com) is scheduled to open in March adjacent to Salt Palace Convention Center. The complex, offering approximately 80 stores and restaurants in a pedestrian-friendly environment, will include a retractable roof and pedestrian skybridge.
  • The Leonardo (801.531.9800; www.theleonardo.org) opened in October as a unique contemporary museum spanning the world of art, science and technology. The venue’s group spaces include the lobby and third-floor courtyard, both accommodating up to 500 people for receptions, and the 25-person boardroom, with views of the Wasatch Mountains.
  • The Rio Tinto Center is the new home of the Utah Museum of Natural History (www.umnh.utah.edu/newmuseum) at the University of Utah. The striking facility’s signature space is The Canyon, accommodating up to 376 people for a seated dinner and 700 people for a reception. Planners can also book exclusive access to the museum’s seven themed exhibit galleries in conjunction with events in The Canyon.

Park City

  • Montage Deer Valley (435.604.1300; www.montagedeervalley.com) opened in December 2010 at Empire Pass in Deer Valley Resort. The property features 154 guest rooms, more than 17,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 31,000 square feet of outdoor function space, and the 35,000-square-foot Spa Montage.
  • With over 19,000 square feet of combined conference and meeting facilities, the multiproperty Canyons Resort (435.649.5400; www.canyonsresort.com) is expanding function space at two of its properties. The 385-room, AAA Four Diamond Grand Summit Hotel is adding the 2,900-square-foot Cabin Conference Center, while the Silverado Lodge is adding a new kosher restaurant and synagogue that will convert to conference space during the non-ski season.
  • Located in the Canyons Resort, the ski-in, ski-out, 178-suite Hyatt Escala Lodge at Park City (435.940.1234; www.escalalodge.hyatt.com), which opened last year, is adding several meeting rooms before the ski season begins, boosting its group capacity up to 200.
