You might get lost in space here, and that’s a good thing. Plunked down in the middle of a wildlife refuge, the Kennedy Space Center, with its thrilling launches and fascinating exhibits, is by many accounts the showpiece of Central East Florida, giving rise to the nickname that encompasses the cities of Cocoa Beach, Titusville, Melbourne and Palm Bay—Florida’s Space Coast.

But NASCAR fans would beg to differ. Indeed, Central East Florida also can rightly be called the “Race Coast,” as it is home to Daytona International Speedway and a host of race-themed events and attractions, including driveable, hard-packed sands.

Happenings – Central East Florida
DAYTONA BEACH
- The 122-room Courtyard by Marriott (386.255.3388; www.marriott.com/DABCY) has completed a $1 million-plus renovation of its guest rooms and lobby, adding lobby Wi-Fi and enclosed “media booths” with televisions and a 52-inch LCD touch screen that gives guests information about restaurants and local attractions.
- The Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort/Ocean Walk Village (386.254.8200; www.daytonahilton.com) recently upgraded all 744 of its guest rooms with flat-screen TVs and new decor and carpeting. Set directly across from the Ocean Center convention venue, the resort offers 60,000 square feet of meeting space, including two ballrooms and individual meeting rooms.

CSR Case Study – Helping Youth in Maui

Back in October, about 90 attendees from around the world descended on Maui, Hawaii, for a five-day incentive program. Spirits were high, each person worked hard to earn the trip, and many brought along spouses and partners. Group gatherings ensued, but on one particular day, attendees experienced something a little different.The head of events, Nola Conway, president of Global Destinations Marketing, a corporate meeting planning company out of Beverly Hills, Calif., rounded up the group for a four-hour corporate social responsibility program benefitting Maui’s youth.
