There’s no place like home, the old adage declares, and hotel guests now expect their sleeping rooms to have everything they enjoy—or would like to enjoy—back on their personal turf.

New and renovating hotels are responding to these expectations with much more than comfy beds. Included are well-equipped workspaces with ergonomic chairs and good task lighting, connectivity that matches what’s available in public spaces, small fridges for order-up and brought-in snacks, and even in-room fitness equipment.

Drive-To Meetings are hitting the gas

Given the current climate of rising air fares and hotel rates—as well as companies’ continued efforts to reduce costs—drive-to meetings have never looked better.
A recent annual American Express Global Business Travel Forecast reports travel costs for businesses will continue to increase in 2012 as suppliers grapple with rising expenses like oil prices, which impact air fares and other energy usage.
“Business travel is essential to both global economic performance and business growth, so we expect demand and price management to push rates up across the board in 2012,” says Christa Degnan Manning, director of Expert Insights research, American Express Global Business Travel.

News Trends – AMEX Looks for More Meetings but Smaller Budgets in 2012

Much like workers in other industries, meeting planners will need to do more next year, yet they will have fewer resources at their disposal.
According to the American Express Meetings & Events Global Meetings Forecast, released in early December, companies plan to book more meetings in 2012 but planners will be expected to creatively manage budgets and do more with less.
Specifically, of the meeting planners surveyed for the Forecast, 42 percent of North American, 50 percent of Latin American, 51 percent of European and 57 percent of Asian respondents see signs of increased activity from their clients.
