downtown san diego
- In May, the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego (619.232.1234) will begin a complete update and renovation of its 1,625 guest rooms, 125,000 square feet of meeting space and all other public spaces. Completion is scheduled for fall 2013.
- San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina is now the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina (619.234.1500) and has been undergoing an extensive $195 million renovation that will be completed in stages over the next three years. In addition to upgrades to its fitness center and South Tower guest rooms, in April 2011 the hotel completed enhancements to its North Tower, at a combined cost of $41 million. Also in early 2011, the hotel completed a $4.2 million makeover of the lobby and front entrance and a $7.7 million upgrade to its pool area. In October, the hotel plans to debut $97 million in new meeting and event space, including a new outdoor event terrace. In 2013, the hotel is planning a $10 million transformation of the South Tower Great Room for private dining events and a $3 million spa.
- In 2012, the Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego (619.239.2200) will complete $25 million in improvements to its 450 guest rooms and suites, emphasizing modern design and eco-friendly materials, as well as an extensive redesign of its public areas. Renovations of its 35,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space were completed in late 2011.
- The Sé San Diego Hotel relaunched as the Hotel Palomar San Diego (619.515.3000) last September.
- The Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa (619.276.4010) recently completed a renovation of its guest rooms and 25,000 square feet of function space.
Mission Valley
- The DoubleTree by Hilton San Diego Mission Valley (619.297.5499) finished a renovation of its 300 guest rooms last July.
la jolla
- The San Diego Marriott La Jolla (858.587.1414) finished a two-year renovation of its suites and public areas last May.
North County
- Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa (760.602.0800) will open in July with 215 guest rooms, more than 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space and the Ocean Crest Spa.
- In November, construction began on the 250-room, Lego-themed Legoland Hotel next to Legoland’s park in Carlsbad. The property is slated to open in summer 2013.
- Carlsbad’s Grand Pacific Palisades Resort (760.827.3200) completed guest room renovations last May.
- The Grand Pacific MarBrisa Resort in Carlsbad is now the Hilton Grand Vacations Club at MarBrisa (760.828.4520). In April 2011, the Spanish Mediterranean-style resort opened two new buildings as part of the ongoing expansion of its 41-acre resort property.
- In May 2011, the Inns of America in Carlsbad reopened as the Hyatt Summerfield Suites San Diego/Carlsbad (760.929.8200) following a complete renovation of its 97 suites.
- The Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Oceanside (760.966.1000) in Oceanside opened in November with 133 guest rooms, plus a restaurant, ballroom, boardroom, pre-function foyer and outdoor space.
East County
- In September 2011, Sycuan Casino (800.279.2826) in El Cajon completed a $27 million property renovation that included a redesign of its casino gaming areas.
Coronado
- Loews Coronado Bay Resort (619.424.4000) finished a $5 million renovation of its meeting space and corridors last year. Renovations of the lounge, cafe and market began in January, and the $7 million project is slated for completion in December.
- The boutique El Cordova Hotel (800.229.2032) on Coronado recently finished remodeling its 1,800-square-foot Casa Grande Suite and also upgraded other guest rooms with iPod docking stations and flat-screen TVs.
