West Virginia
In addition to operating as a resort near the New River Gorge, Rivermen (800.545.7238; www.rivermen.com) helps to facilitate programs on the water. Riverman’s New River Gorge Adventure Center staff can take corporate and association groups out in rafts for splashy adventures or keep them on land for rock climbing programs, hiking excursions and orienteering experiences through the woods.
Based in Fayetteville, W. Va., Focus Intent (304.237.7575; www.focusintent.com) facilitators administer indoor icebreaker activities for business groups as well as outdoor adventure experiences. One popular option is to go on the Team Gorge Hike along an easy trail with views of the New River Gorge.
Virginia
Adventure Associates (800.987.5582; www.adventureassoc.com) facilitates programs all over Virginia. Options include GPS courses, sailing opportunities and orienteering though the mountains.
Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing (800.782.0779; www.wilderness-adventure.com) is a 500-acre outdoor adventure camp located about 30 minutes north of Roanoke in New Castle, Va. On property, groups can enjoy mountain biking, caving, a zip line, and a high ropes course.
Located in Salem, Va., Camp Roanoke (540.387.6114; www.roanokecountyva.gov) specializes in outdoor adventure for groups of all ages, including high and low ropes courses, rock climbing, kayaking, and archery. Groups also can book private events at the camp’s 1,200-square-foot dining hall, 950-foot activity lodge and 1,500-square-foot picnic pavilion.
North Carolina
Accents on Asheville (828.251.9013; www.accentsonasheville.com) is the destination management company at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa in Asheville. In addition to offering transportation and themed events, the company also facilitates teambuilding—including white water rafting competitions, fly fishing and scavenger hunts.
Also in Asheville, Pine Mountain Adventures (828.553.0496; www.pinemountainadventures.com) facilitates a wide variety of group experiences in the wilderness. Meeting planners can choose everything from an outdoor drumming workshop to scavenger hunts and orienteering programs.
Tennessee
