- The 172-room Hyatt Place Charlotte-Uptown (800.233.1234; www.hyatt.com) is scheduled to open by August at Caldwell and Third streets. The complex will also house a rooftop restaurant with a 360-degree view, street level retail venues and 67 condominiums.
- Westin Charlotte (704.375.2600; www.starwoodhotels.com) completed a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2011. The project included enhancements to the lobby area, guest rooms, corridors and function space. The property has 700 guest rooms and 24 meeting rooms, the largest of which is the 16,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom.
- DoubleTree by Hilton Charlotte (704.347.0070; www.hilton.com) underwent a rebranding and renovation in September 2011. The 187-room property, featuring 2,000 square feet of meeting space, is located in the Gateway Village neighborhood, within walking distance of the convention center.
- Hotel Sierra was reflagged the Hyatt House Charlotte/Center City (704.373.9700; www.hyatt.com) last year. The property, located adjacent to Time Warner Cable Arena and four blocks from Charlotte Convention Center, features 163 guest rooms, 134 suites and 2,200 square feet of meeting space.
- The 80-year-old Dunhill Hotel (704.332.4141; www.dunhillhotel.com) finished a $1 million renovation of its 60 guest rooms and reopened its restaurant in early 2011. The new Harvest Moon Grille focuses on fresh, local ingredients.
- The U.S. National Whitewater Center (704.391.3900; www.usnwc.org) added three new attractions in 2011: stand-up paddle boarding, the Canyon Crossing and the Canopy Tour. The three adventures allow groups to take in the beauty of the Historic Tuckaseegee Ford Trail and wooded canyons while team building with activities such as zip lines, high-ropes courses, aerial bridges and rappelling. The facility will add a new suspension bridge across the river this spring. There is event space available for groups as large as several thousand.
Cabarrus County
- The 125-room Hampton Inn & Suites Concord/Charlotte (704.979.5600; www.hilton.com) is scheduled to renovate its lobby in 2012. The property features 1,800 square feet of meeting space.
- The 79-room Holiday Inn Express Charlotte-Concord (704.979.7900; www.hiexpress.com) completed renovations in November 2011. The property has nearly 1,000 square feet of meeting space.
- Embassy Suites Charlotte-Concord Golf Resort & Spa (704.455.8200; www.embassysuitesconcord.com) completed an upgrade to its exercise facility in January, replacing flooring and decor and adding new equipment. The property offers 308 suites and 42,000 square feet of meeting space.
