Denver
- The Brown Palace Hotel (303.297.3111; www.brownpalace.com), which has invested $52 million in an ongoing renovation over the last several years, most recently completed upgrades to guest bathrooms.
- A Marriott Renaissance (800.721.7033; www.marriott.com) with approximately 230 rooms is planned for the former Colorado National Bank Building. The property will feature meeting rooms, including one inside the bank’s vault; restaurant and retail space; and a lounge in the mezzanine overlooking the lobby. The original lobby, featuring a three-story atrium with classical marble colonnades and 16 large murals by famed artist Allen Tupper True, will be preserved. The hotel is slated for completion this fall.
- The Clyfford Still Museum (720.354.4880; www.clyffordstillmuseum.org) opened in November adjacent to the Denver Art Museum. The museum’s collection includes almost 2,400 of Still’s paintings, drawings and prints. Event space is available for up to 250 people reception-style and 60 banquet-style.
- The $110 million History Colorado Center (303.447.8679; www.historycolorado.org) will open in April with interactive exhibits of Colorado’s history as well as reception, banquet and meeting space for up to 1,000 people.
Colorado Springs
- Cheyenne Mountain Resort (719.538.4000; www.cheyennemountain.com) completed a $20 million renovation in April 2011, including upgrades to its 40,000 square feet of meeting space, 316 guest rooms, restaurant and outdoor common areas.
- At press time, The Broadmoor (719.577.5777; www.broadmoor.com) was scheduled to finish a renovation in March of the exterior of Cheyenne Lodge.
- The Colorado Springs U.S. Olympic Training Center (719.632.5551; www.teamusa.org) began offering meeting space last September, including the West Wing Conference Center, accommodating more than 200 people, several breakout rooms and reception spaces.
- The Cave of the Winds (719.685.5444; www.caveofthewinds.com) opened a new attraction, the Wind Walker Challenge Course, in April 2011. The addition is a combination jungle gym, maze and ropes course suitable for people of varying skill levels.
Aspen
- St. Regis Aspen Resort (970.920.3300; www.stregisaspen.com) reopened in December following a $35 million renovation and redesign, including upgrades to guest rooms; a newly created library with a fireplace, sofas, bookshelves and game tables; and an updated ballroom and meeting space.
Grand Junction
- Candlewood Suites Grand Junction (970.255.8093; www.ichotelsgroup.com) opened in June 2011 with 97 guest rooms.
- SpringHill Suites Grand Junction Downtown (970.424.5777; www.marriott.com) opened in June 2011 across the street from Two Rivers Convention Center. The property has 100 guest rooms and a boardroom for small meetings.
- Holiday Inn Express Grand Junction (970.245.8164; www.hiexpress.com) is scheduled to finish a renovation of its lobby, guest rooms and hallways this month.
- LaQuinta Inn & Suites (970.241.2929; www.lq.com) recently completed a soft goods renovation, including upgrades to guest rooms and public spaces.
Durango
- A Holiday Inn & Suites (888.465.4329; www.holidayinn.com) is scheduled to open this fall with 160 guest rooms.
