Even though Lake Geneva seems “off-site” to begin with, there are numerous options outside the meeting room that take advantage of the area’s unique landscape and cultural flavor.
Next month, the season begins for Lake Geneva Cruise Line (www.cruiselakegeneva.com), which provides eight boats to host numerous group events. Common for business meetings, family events, weddings or private affairs, the boats can accommodate up to 225 guests. All groups have to do is pick the boat, choose the caterer and any additional entertainment, and away they go.
Old World Wisconsin (www.oldworldwisconsin.org) is an outdoor museum-like exploration of 19th century rural and immigrant farm life in Wisconsin, including a mid-century crossroads village, plus ethnic farmsteads and gardens, all spread over 600 acres. In particular, visitors can enjoy Vintage Base Ball—spelled as two words—a rapidly growing pastime. A re-creation of the styles, rules and terminology of the original game, it’s like a Civil War re-enactment, but with sport instead. For groups, available spaces include the upper loft of Clausing Barn Restaurant, which seats 175, and the Norwegian Picnic Pavilion, which seats 400.
Continuing on the historical front, the East Troy Railroad Museum (www.easttroyrr.org) provides groups with the opportunity to dine on vintage railcars and trolleys traveling in southeast Wisconsin. The main property includes a depot museum and gift shop. Charter trains are available for both lunch and dinner routes.
The Riviera Lake Geneva (www.lakegeneveriveira.com) is a popular swing-era ballroom complex that is popular for events. Situated right on Geneva Lake and offering boat cruises, the venue presents perhaps the definitive combination of old-world ambience and modern lavishness. The main space is a 7,200-square-foot hall with an exquisite view of Geneva Lake, perfect for sit-down dinners of up to 400 and ideal for post-meeting revelry.
Groups with theatrical inclinations can opt for events at the Baker House (www.bakerhouse1885.com), one of the most luxurious inns on the lake and a house listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Beginning this month, the season kicks in with the Murder Mystery Cocktail Party and Dinner events, always a treat for groups.
