Francis Ford Coppola has launched a luxurious new hotel in southern Italy, in the village of Bernalda. The venture marks something of a return to the film- and wine-maker’s roots, as his grandfather Agostino was born there.
The small hotel has an intimate setting, with only nine bedrooms and suites, and is set in a renovated 19th-century villa featuring hand-painted fresco ceilings and marble flooring. An inner courtyard, private gardens and sheltered swimming pool are additional bonuses.
Dining at the hotel has a focus on regional Italian cuisine such as hand-crafted pastas, fresh local fish and artisanal breads and cheeses. The hotel's Cinecittà Bar will offer numerous wines from around the region.
Guests can also order up spa treatments in their rooms, or relax in a private theater to watch selections from hundreds of classic Italian films that were chosen by Coppola himself.
The hotel is Coppola’s sixth overall, and the first in Europe. His other properties are in Belize, Argentina, Guatemala and the U.S.
