Washington, DC
As the Marketing Manager for The National Conference Center, I’m the editor and writer of Conference Center Blog (www.conferencecenterblog.com) and founder of the quarterly white paper series, Meeting Discoveries. I previously spent time gaining PR and marketing experience at agencies, mainly working with hotel and resort clients. It was there that I first realized my love for the industry. I currently serve as the Board Associate for the International Association of Conference Centers, where I have the opportunity to meet professionals from all the BEST meeting venues in the world (www.iacconline.org).
Most unusual aspect of your job: The freedom and flexibility of taking on new projects. My position was untested waters for NCC and ARAMARK in 2010. Since then, marketing manager has become a new and upcoming position for ARAMARK properties.
Favorite book: Lone Survivor and The Art of Racing in The Rain
Favorite food: Mexican
Favorite TV show: Seinfeld and when I can, Anderson Cooper, 20/20, and 60 Minutes.
Favorite movie: Sleepless in Seattle – anything Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.
Most unique place you've been: Camping in a VW Bus in the Olympic National Forest or three weeks fishing/hiking in Alaska
Favorite aspect of the meetings/travel industry: The People – they’re selfless and always put others’ needs before their own.
Pet peeve: Bad attitudes, laziness and sloppy work.
One thing about you that most people don't know: I was incredibly shy in grade school and would cry over spilled milk. I cried once when I thought I forgot to bring a book to school. I was so disheveled about disappointing my teacher, I overlooked it being in my desk.
What's the best advice you've ever received in our industry?: If your heart doesn’t skip a beat when you walk down the hall, then you’re in the wrong industry.
What's your favorite local/regional place to take a visitor to your area?: DC’s Wine Country and exploring new DC restaurants with the right ambiance.
Is there anything else you'd like to add that we've overlooked?: I’m incredibly passionate about the hospitality industry and could talk about meetings, hotels, and traveling for hours.
