The Green Meeting Industry Council rolled out a roadmap to help follow recently released green meeting standards.
The move comes after the CIC’s Accepted Practices Exchange Initiative, together with the American Society for Testing and Materials International, published eight new sustainable meetings standards.
The roadmap calls for GMIC to create nearly 24 training modules by July 2014, each for a sustainable meetings practice at different expertise levels.
The roadmap covers sustainability and industry standards, operations and examples, and innovations and next practices.
“Corporations and associations have been asking for a recognized standard to help define what makes a meeting more sustainable,” said GMIC President Paul Salinger, vice president of marketing at Oracle Corporation. “Meeting professionals have been looking for the training and education to put those principles into practice. Now, APEX is a reality, and GMIC is ready to deliver.”
