The Cobo Center (313.877.8777; www.cobocenter.com) plans to finish a $300 million renovation in January 2015. Upon completion, the facility will feature 25,000 square feet of new exhibition space, a new kitchen, a new 40,000-square-foot ballroom and new meeting rooms, in addition to its existing 700,000 square feet of event space and 73 meeting rooms. There will also be a new entrance that highlights the riverfront.
After sitting empty for years, the 413-room Hotel Pontchartrain has new owners and is slated to reopen in June 2013. Depending on negotiations, the 25-story hotel may be reflagged as a Crowne Plaza property. The hotel is located in downtown Detroit, across from the Cobo Center.
Construction of an Aloft (877.462.5638; www.starwoodhotels.com) is planned in downtown Detroit, with a potential opening in 2015. The property will offer approximately 100 to 150 rooms.
The Henry, Autograph Collection (313.441.2000; www.behenry.com), a Marriott property in Dearborn, recently finished a renovation and decor upgrade. The facility offers 308 guest rooms, 19 meeting rooms and 26,000 square feet of meeting space.
