- Embassy Suites Myrtle Beach at Kingston Plantation (843.449.0006; www.kingstonresorts.com), which has 70,000 square feet of meeting space, was completing a multimillion-dollar renovation at press time. The project included enhancements to the lobby, restaurants and common areas, and the addition of a new oceanfront restaurant. Last year, the property renovated its 255 suites as well as its sport and health club.
- Myrtle Beach Zipline Adventures (843.839.9477; www.mbziplines.com) opened a zip line called Adrenaline Adventures in April at the former Pavilion Amusement Park site on Ocean Boulevard. It allows participants to zip 600 feet between platforms and also has a 60-foot freefall platform. A second zip line, Oceanview Adventures, is planned for a site near Springmaid Beach Resort.
- The NASCAR Racing Experience (877.722.3527; www.nascarracingexperience.com) was unveiled at a renovated Myrtle Beach Speedway in April when it opened for the season. It is the 11th American location for the Charlotte, N.C.-based Racing Experience operation, which has NASCAR vehicle programs for groups. The track is located off Highway 501 behind the Tanger Outlets.
- Ripley’s Aquarium (843.916.0888; www.ripleysaquarium.com) opened a new dinosaur exhibit in April that runs through Labor Day. Included as part of aquarium paid admission, it features life-size dinosaurs and hands-on activities in a 2,000-square-foot exhibit hall.
- Backstage Mirror Maze and the Vault Laser Maze (843.712.1794; www.backstagemirrormaze.com) opened in April in a 2,500-square-foot space at Broadway at the Beach. The new attraction is based on a 1930s’ New York attempted bank robbery in which robbers tried to escape through a maze of theater back stages.
