Two new luxury resort properties opened in Mexico within the last year; the 73-unit Garza Blanca Preserve Resort and Spa, Puerto Vallarta and the 415-room Villa del Palmar Cancun Beach Resort & Spa. While they cater primarily to leisure travelers, both properties offer an array of options for incentive groups and high-level executive retreats.
“These properties are very appealing to the incentive segment,” says Lucy Ruiz, general manager of the Villa del Palmar. Small groups can stay on the properties and have privacy but they are also have easy access to many activities.
Located on the north side of Cancun, 15 minutes from the Hotel Zone, Villa del Palmar fully opened three months ago and offers all-inclusive or European-style packages.
In Cancun incentive groups often enjoy a trip to the Exotic Rides racetrack (www.exoticrides.com.mx/cancun), where they can take a turn behind the wheel of a Ferrari, Lamborghini or other speedy luxury vehicles. Exotic Rides welcomes private events, and also offers go-kart racing.
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Madre mountain range, the Garza Blanca Preserve Resort t & Spa welcomes small reunions and executive groups. Depending on the season, groups booking 30-50 rooms can have the almost undivided attention of the staff. The property works with a few trusted local DMCs to plan excursions including golf, scuba diving, deep sea fishing and trips to eco-parks and historical ruins.
Puerto Vallarta is also experiencing a huge dining boom. “We are investing a lot into our restaurants and creating a culinary experience where guests can truly enjoy eating and drinking,” Ruiz says.
Both properties offer ocean views, numerous pools, spas, catering and venues for private receptions, such as the beach lounge at Villa del Palmar. AeroMexico, the country’s largest airline, holding 40% of the market share in Mexico, flies to both cities and is expanding its international destination cities, which include Fresno, Calif., Atlanta, Brownsville, Texas and Virginia's Washington Dulles International Airport, as well as Tokyo, Madrid, Paris and Shanghai internationally.
