WOW-e Las Vegas!

Meetings WOW-e!

Las Vegas

You're Gonna Dig This!

Heavy construction equipment and Las Vegas go hand in hand—but maybe not as a meeting group activity!

That all changed a little more than a year ago with the opening of Dig This, which bills itself as the nation’s first “heavy equipment playground.”

“Only in Vegas” has a whole new meaning!

Just a few minutes from the Strip, attendees can engage in team-building programs that incorporate the actual operation of Caterpillar bulldozers and excavators to move boulders and oh-so-gently stack tires, among other operations.

In short, it’s got to be any man’s—or woman’s—ultimate Las Vegas fantasy!

If you want to gain a good perspective on Las Vegas, the person who was named its longest continuously running headliner by the Guinness Book of World Records just may be the right guy to ask.

Using the same source, you might even get an opinion from a Strip starlet in the bargain.

Frank Marino, “Superstar Female Impersonator,” has been a headliner in the Entertainment Capital of the World for more than 27 years, currently holding court on the Strip at the Imperial Palace. His Divas Las Vegas show features an all-star cast of female impersonators offering lovingly catty impersonations of showbiz icons such as Cher, Diana Ross, Madonna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Dolly Parton, as well as Marino’s dead-on emcee work as Joan Rivers.

Along the way to his own stardom, Marino has picked up accolades such as earning a star bearing his name on the Las Vegas Walk of Fame, having a street named Frank Marino Drive, being named Las Vegas’ “Entertainer of the Century” in 2009, and having then-Mayor Oscar Goodman name Feb. 1, 2005, “Frank Marino Day.” Having acted in His Majesty, the Queen and Miss Congeniality 2, his bio even lists him as “America’s favorite male actress.”

“What I like about Las Vegas is the ‘24-hours’ of it,” Marino offers. “I do my show and get done at one or two in the morning, and then I can go to a fancy restaurant and enjoy a meal, while if I was in another city, usually 10 o’clock would be your late seating.”

He also doffs his bonnet to Vegas royalty.

The Suite Life
If one looks to pop culture for an illustration of “livin’ large,” partying it up in a rockin’ suite in Las Vegas would probably be the image you’re offered.

One guy who’s a proponent of the suite life—if only for professional purposes—is Bill Lynch, president of meetings services company NHS (www.nhs-usa.com), which utilizes Las Vegas on a frequent basis for incentive travel programs and corporate events.

“It’s a place our clients like going to, so we operate a lot of programs there—it’s a popular spot in our world,” Lynch says, adding that NHS probably operates six to eight programs in Las Vegas every year, and provides site-selection services for maybe 20 more. “It used to be only certain groups would want to go there, but now all cross-sections do, from doctors to professionals to midlevel customers—everyone wants a piece of it now.”
