ONTARIO, Calif.
Ontario Convention Center general manager Bob Brown has resigned after an internal investigation determined he had violated company policies, according to a letter to the city from SMG, the building’s management company.
The internal investigation by SMG concluded Brown violated policies and rules of conduct, and perpetuated a culture at the center that “fostered a blatant disregard” of policies by other staff members, according to the letter signed by SMG senior vice president Bob McClintock.
In addition to Brown, three other management-level employees resigned, according to the letter.
In May, the city of Ontario renewed its contract with SMG to manage the convention center for another five years, agreeing to pay the company $150,000 annually. The new contract also aims to encourage the company to do more to fill area hotel rooms. In order for SMG to earn 25 percent of its bonus, the city included a new requirement that a certain level of occupancy tax revenue, paid by hotel guests, be generated, said Ontario city manager Chris Hughes.
