Spotlight: San Antonio's Culinary Fiesta

More Coverage

As the chef-owner of La Gloria (“the heavens”) Ice House, local son Johnny Hernandez also serves as a commissioner to the San Antonio CVB.

“With our culinary scene advancing farther in the last two years than it has in the last decade, we want to move it to the top of the visitor agenda,” Hernandez says. “From our annual Culinaria Wine and Culinary Arts Festival to a wide range of exciting restaurants, food is celebrated in San Antonio, with something for every taste.”

Located in the Pearl Brewery complex, La Gloria is an absolute must for the best Mexican fare and margaritas this side of the border. The Pearl (stay tuned for a dramatic new hotel going into its historic brewery building) is also home to the Culinary Institute of America and its pioneering new Latin American restaurant, NAO. Mi Tierra operates around the clock in Market Square, Feast is a hip newcomer in Southtown, and Sustenio is legendary Texas chef Stephan Pyles’ first outpost outside of Dallas, helmed by rising star David Gilbert at the Eilan Hotel in booming northwest San Antonio.
