The wait is finally over in Waco. Five years after voters approved a $17.5 million bond issue for its renovation, the Waco Convention Center opened its doors this summer with 25,000 square feet of new space, increasing its total to 144,000 square feet overall. Located roughly halfway between Dallas and Austin on the Interstate 35 corridor, Waco is embracing the return of one of the premier meeting venues in central Texas.
“Offering more versatility, the new convention center is going to create a significant positive impact for Waco,” says Elizabeth Taylor, director of the venue and director of the Waco CVB.
Included in the renovation is a balcony overlooking the scenic Brazos River and Waco’s historic suspension bridge, new technology access and additional prefunction and breakout space. More than 1,000 hotel rooms are within one mile of the venue, with many more overflow rooms within a 15-minute radius.
“The added flexibility will help us reach new markets and bring more events to Waco,” Taylor says.
