CHARLOTTE

  • Set to open by this fall, SKYE Condominiums (www.skyecondos.com), seeking LEED Silver certification, will house a 172-room Hyatt Place Hotel and rooftop 360-degree-view restaurant.

RALEIGH

  • With 126 rooms and 1,408 square feet of meeting space, the new Hampton Inn & Suites-Glenwood South (www.hamptoninn.com) has a proposed opening date of mid-November.

  • The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (919.707.9800; www.naturalsciences.org) opened its new 80,000-square-foot Nature Research Center wing in April.

DURHAM

  • Plans have been announced to convert the historic SunTrust Building into a 21c Museum Hotel (502.582.6300; www.21cmuseumhotels.com), which will have 125 rooms, an art collection and a high-end restaurant. Completion is expected by 2015.

CHAPEL HILL

  • The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau (www.visitchapelhill.org) unveiled its new “Edge of the Triangle” tourism campaign in July.

  • Construction is under way on a new 142-room Hampton Inn & Suites Hotel (www.hamptoninn.com) in Carrboro. Targeting a late spring 2013 opening, the property will feature 3,400 square feet of meeting space, 18,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space, and a 500-space parking deck.

GREENSBORO

  • Set to open in early 2013, the 23,000-square-foot, LEED-designed SciQuarium at the Natural Science Center of Greensboro (336.288.3769 www.natsci.org) will be the first aquarium in the center of the state.

  • Greensboro-High Point Marriott Airport (336.852.6450; www.marriott.com) completed a renovation in February, including enhancements to all 299 rooms and lobby and restaurant areas. The hotel also added two banquet rooms, for a total of 11,000 square feet of meeting space.

FAYETTEVILLE

  • The new Embassy Suites Fayetteville/Fort Bragg (910.826.3600; www.embassysuites3.hilton.com) opened in May with 165 rooms and 12,000 square feet of meeting space.

WILMINGTON

  • With space including a 30,000-square-foot exhibit hall, 12,000-square-foot grand ballroom and 12,000-square-foot event lawn, the riverfront Wilmington Convention Center (910.251.5101; www.businessmadecasual.com) recently received LEED Silver certification.

  • Unveiled in July, TheatreNOW (910.399.3669; www.theatrewilmington.com) is the Wilmington region’s first dedicated dinner theater arts complex, providing group- and family-friendly entertainment.

ASHEVILLE

  • As it approaches its centenary in 2013, Grove Park Inn (828.252.2711; www.groveparkinn.com) is undergoing more than $25 million in restorations and renovations to its spa, public areas, guest rooms, dining outlets and meeting spaces, half of which will be completed by the end of 2012. Opened in 1913, the hotel features 512 rooms, 55,000 square feet of versatile meeting space and Horizons, Asheville’s only AAA Four-Diamond restaurant.

  • Featuring 115 rooms and nearly 2,000 square feet of function space, Aloft Asheville Downtown (828.232.2838; www.aloftashevilledowntown.com) opened in August.
