Thrill-seekers convening in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara will be tickled to buckle in for two new roller coasters coming on-line in 2013.
- Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk’s (www.beachboardwalk.com) 1992 steel coaster, Hurricane, will be replaced next summer by Undertow, Northern California’s only spinning roller coaster. Traveling sideways, looking straight up at the sky or down toward the ground are vantage points riders can enjoy on this unique attraction.
- Next spring, California’s Great America (www.cagreatamerica.com) will unveil Gold Striker, the tallest (108.2 feet high) and fastest (53.7 mph) wooden coaster in Northern California. The two-minute, 30-second ride is certain to please coaster enthusiasts with a 103-foot drop.
