State of the ‘Art’

The Alexander Hotel is opening in January 2013 in Indianapolis, and aims to draw business, leisure and meetings clientele with its modern design elements, central locale and emphasis on artwork. Here’s a look at some of the details:

•             Developed by Indianapolis-based Buckingham Companies and designed by the noted architecture firm, Gensler, The Alexander will be Dolce Hotels and Resorts’ 18th North American hotel.

•             Property Overview: The Alexander will be a modern 209-room hotel that caters to individual business and leisure travelers. Located in the heart of CityWay, a new 14-acre neighborhood that also includes residential, office and retail space in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, The Alexander is within walking distance of several attractions such as Lucas Oil Stadium, Banker’s Life Fieldhouse and the Indianapolis Convention Center.

•             An Emphasis on Art: In collaboration with the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Dr. Lisa Freiman, the hotel has more than 40 works of contemporary art, which will be on view throughout the hotel’s public spaces. In addition, the Plat99 mixology cocktail lounge space inside the hotel was designed by acclaimed artist Jorge Pardo. A 2010 recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship (commonly known as a “Genius Grant”), Pardo’s work spans the intersection of art, design and architecture.
