In response to the backlash from the National Rifle Association and other groups following their decision to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines at the annual Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, Reed Exhibitions announced they will postpone the tradeshow.
Themed around hunting and fishing and designed to be a family-friendly event, the show was scheduled to run the first week in February at the Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, Penn. Sponsors and exhibitors responded to the ban by pulling out of the show.
Regional newspapers are reporting the negative effect the postponement will have on local economies, the Central Penn Business Journal predicted as much as $80 million in lost revenue from direct spending on food and local lodging by the approximately 1,000 vendors and around 125,000 attendees.
