How is Charlotte a culinary trendsetter in the South?
Farm-to-table dining is a rapidly growing segment of the food industry, and Charlotte restaurants have always enjoyed a working relationship with our local farms and purveyors.
Tell us a bit about The King’s Kitchen and your Charlotte-inspired specialties.
At The King’s Kitchen our chefs focus on local, new Southern cuisine. We create locally inspired dishes utilizing farm fresh ingredients, putting a modern twist on classic Southern cuisine. A great example of a Charlotte-inspired specialty dish that showcases our Southern expertise would be the pan-seared red drum with New Town Farms young vegetables.
Can you explain the restaurant’s “feed the poor” model?
We are a full-scale, not-for-profit restaurant, and our profits are used to help feed the hungry here in Charlotte, surrounding areas and other parts of the world. We also work with established feeding centers to provide funds and food so they may continue providing meals for those in need.
Our marketing director does a wonderful job of reaching all types of businesses and organizations, including those that are specifically interested in giving back.
Do you have private dining space for visiting groups?
Yes, we have several options. We have a semi-private table that will seat 10 people and a semi-private room that will seat up to 20 people, and we also rent out our retail bakery space for parties of up to 30 people.
