The Hyatt Regency Maui Conserves Electricity

The 806-room Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa recently became the first commercial business to adopt Maui Electric’s new semi-automated Demand Response system. The program, launched last year for residential customers, helps keep costs down and lowers energy usage across the island.

The emerging technology places controllers on the hotel’s non-essential equipment that sense when the devices are not in use and shut them off, saving the property money and redistributing power to the grid.

Maui Electric is shifting toward an energy grid that draws more power from renewable resources such as solar and wind, and the DR system helps the island avoid unplanned outages due to high demand.
