Illinois
- InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile completed a comprehensive set of renovations in March. The $12 million project updated 477 guest rooms. The InterContinental offers a total 792 guest rooms and 45,000 square feet of event space and banquet halls.
- The 2,019-room Hyatt Regency Chicago unveiled its $168 million renovation in April. Highlights include an updated registration area, a new 24-hour market and revitalized restaurants. Meeting space totals 228,000 square feet and includes four ballrooms.
- Loews Hotels & Resorts broke ground on the Loews Chicago Hotel, scheduled to open in January 2015. The hotel will feature 400 guest rooms and more than 25,000 square feet of meeting space, including an outdoor rooftop pool.
Kansas
- Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in Overland Park completed a six-month property renovation, which included the lobby and guest rooms. The hotel offers five meeting rooms,ranging in size from 200 to 900 square feet.
Michigan
- Following two years of delay, Traverse City’s $15 million Hotel Indigo project began demolition in March. The hotel will offer 105 guest rooms.
- The Detroit Historical Museum reopened following a $12 million renovation project. The space can accommodate up to 2,000 guests, who can dine in the Streets of Old Detroit exhibit or stroll through the new Detroit Legends Plaza, honoring the city’s sports, entertainment and media stars.
Wisconsin
- Hilton Milwaukee City Center closed its indoor waterpark, Paradise Landing, in March. Located near the Delta Center, the Hilton hopes to appear more to business travellers. The 730-room hotel features 33,000 square feet of function space and had not announced what will move into the 20,000-square-foot space at press time.
- Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced plans to build a Milwaukee Hotel in the city’s Third Ward, developing space that is currently a parking lot. Featuring 158 rooms, a restaurant and meeting space, the boutique property is scheduled to open in 2015.
