The new OceanAire Resort Hotel and other Virginia openings

Virginia Beach

  • OceanAire Resort Hotel opened in 2012. Part of Ocean Beach Club & Resort, the upscale property offers a 2,600-square-foot meeting room with ocean views and 1,175 square feet of prefunction space.

Norfolk

  • A $126 million meeting hotel has been proposed for downtown Norfolk. In partnership with locally based Gold Key PHR Hotels and Resorts, the city plans to build a 300-room property with three restaurants and a rooftop bar. The project would adjoin a 50,000-square-foot conference center and a 600-space parking garage. The development is still in the final stages of approval, but if it proceeds according to plan, groundbreaking could take place by the end of 2013.

Williamsburg

  • In July 2012, Interstate Hotels & Resorts purchased the Marriott Hotel Williamsburg in a joint venture with Waramaug Hospitality LLC and reflagged it as the Williamsburg Hotel & Conference Center. The property is undergoing a $7.5 million renovation and conversion project. Upon completion of the renovations, expected in 2013, the hotel will again be rebranded, this time as the Doubletree by Hilton Williamsburg. The 295-room property is one of the largest meeting venues in Williamsburg, with 45,000 square feet of meeting space and a 714-seat auditorium.

Newport News

  • Point Plaza Suites at City Center added a 200-seat theater room with a 62-inch flat screen television and surround sound in spring 2012. It adjoins a concession area offering popcorn and snacks. The property has 10,800 square feet of meeting space.
  • Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill opened in the City Center at Oyster Point in October 2012. The 17,000-square-foot restaurant has two 40-person private “barns” adjacent to the dance floor as well as a glass-enclosed VIP room. The restaurant is the 10th opened by the country singer since 2003 and the first of its kind in Virginia.

Chesapeake

  • Red Roof Inn Chesapeake Conference Center recently upgraded amenities in all 108 guest rooms. Improvements include new Rest Suite beds by Serta, flat-screen televisions, luxury bedding and contemporary new flooring and seating. The property is located across the street from Chesapeake Conference Center, which offers 22,700 square feet of flexible event space.
