Small Knives on Planes? TSA Says Not So Fast
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced the postponement of a new rule that would have allowed smaller knives to be brought aboard passenger aircraft.
Along with small-blade knives (shorter than 2.36 inches in length and less than 1/2 inch in width), bats, golf clubs and other sports equipment that was to be allowed under the new rule will remain banned for the time being. The new rules softening carry-on restrictions had been set to go into effect April 25th.
There is no new implementation date currently in place.
The official release from the TSA:
“In order to accommodate further input from the Aviation Security Advisory Committee (ASAC), which includes representatives from the aviation community, passenger advocates, law enforcement experts, and other stakeholders, TSA will temporarily delay implementation of changes to the Prohibited Items List, originally scheduled to go into effect April 25. This timing will enable TSA to incorporate the ASAC’s feedback about the changes to the Prohibited Items List and continue workforce training."
