A new community gathering place in Healdsburg, north of San Francisco in Wine Country, SHED features creative cuisine by Chef Niki Ford and light-filled event spaces.
An open kitchen, wood oven, coffee bar and fermentation bar dish out culinary treats, and on the second floor, “The Grange” can accommodate meetings, seminars and special events.
The entire structure oozes sustainable-chic and the 2,750-square-foot meeting space upstairs was inspired by the high ceilings of traditional agrarian gathering places.
The Grange plays host to community events of all types, including movie screenings, educational talks and bee-keeping informational sessions.
The SHED also sells an assortment of high-end cooking and gardening supplies.
The building’s siding is made of 70 percent recycled steel and salvaged wood, including reclaimed elm, pine, cypress and bay laurel, and was also used in the structure.
Visitors can dine on the sun-drenched patios, and the menu changes regularly, sourcing items from the bounty of Northern California to create an ingredient-driven, plant-based menu.
Meetings Focus stopped in on a sunny afternoon a few weeks after opening and sampled a bubbly “shrub” beverage from the fermentation bar.
To create these fruity concoctions, SHED presses the juice from fresh raspberries, blood oranges, blackberries or other fruits, lets it ferment for approximately 24 hours, and mixes with drinking vinegar and sparkling water for a refreshing warm-weather beverage.
Beer, wine, kombucha and hard ciders from local purveyors are also available.
