We need to use our collective voices to communicate the important values that live, in-person meetings have on the growth and development of our society. Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing outcomes that directly affect people’s lives. The way to make a difference is to get involved. Here are seven actions you can start taking immediately.
- Believe. Remain hopeful. You have a voice—you can make a difference.
- Be informed. Keep abreast of issues concerning you and the issues that concern your job, industry and cause.
- Discuss the issues. Spread the word. Talk with friends, family and co-workers, and listen to their views. Sharing opinions and insights shape and refine your own beliefs.
- Get on the record. Write, speak out, act. Inform others by communicating your opinion on the things that matter most to you.
- Be a resource. Provide expertise so that others can know the values you advocate for.
- Volunteer. Play a part for the cause by volunteering.
- Contribute. Donate money or time to support your causes, candidates and organizations.
