Hotels expand teambuilding options with healthy, lighthearted programs

Mallets & Hoops
Not only does the 7,600-square-foot croquet lawn at Rancho Valencia Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., afford panoramic views of inland Southern California complete with frequent hot-air balloon sightings, but rounds of croquet are complimentary for all guests and event attendees. The lawn also makes a great reception site. Following an extensive renovation, the famous tennis resort has stepped up its fitness initiatives and outdoor offerings.

Sun & Sand
From the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort, attendees can cross a bridge over the Pacific Coast Highway to access team-building fun on the hotel’s secluded beach. The Dig It! group program comes complete with tools and a prepared base of perfect architectural sand. It originated as an afternoon program for kids, but adults soon wanted to get in on the fun. The property also offers kite-flying sessions and beach equipment rentals, from umbrellas to horseshoes.

Working Warriors
For extreme bonding and adrenaline-filled fun, the Westin Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, Fla., created an elaborate obstacle course on its championship golf course. Challenges include dodging barbed wire, throwing spears, carrying sand bags, climbing over walls and battling through an arena of gladiators. As a bonus, your group will score a collection of photos to hang in their offices.

Melt Your Heart
Kohler’s American Resort Club in Wisconsin offers a unique, and delicious, Chocolatier for a Day program. Kohler debuted its enticing original recipe chocolates five years ago, and now groups can spend the day touring the property’s Craverie Chocolatier Cafe, filling chocolate molds and visiting the production area. Plus, everyone leaves with a delicious goody bag of samples. The American Club has hosted entire chocolate-themed weekend events. The resort also offers bocce ball, snowshoeing and renowned salmon fishing.

A New Blend
Wyndham Grand Orlando’s Krush package was designed to help groups improve teamwork, step up communication…and drink wine. Each team is given a bottle of Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec and let loose to create a custom wine blend. Afterward, the teams come up with a name and logo before presenting their beverages to a panel for judging, followed by dinner, complete with professional wine pairings.
