The Reno Area is Busy With Hotel Openings and Upgrades

Reno and Sparks

  • Reno-Tahoe International Airport, which welcomes approximately 4 million visitors per year, recently underwent a 17-month, $27 million renovation. The Gateway Project redesign updated terminal dining options and installed decor that reflects the natural beauty of the region, including Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River. Security checkpoints were also consolidated.
  • Silver Legacy Resort Casino recently invested $6 million to add the new Aura Ultra Lounge, upgrade retail offerings and liven up the property. This year also brought new and remodeled dining options at Cafe Sedona and the Oyster Bar & Grille.
  • Grand Sierra Resort recently underwent a $25 million renovation that included enhancements to guest rooms and the front entrance, a new nightlife lounge, expanded dining offerings and a new luxury concierge level. Upcoming improvements include an upgrade of the property’s 200,000 square feet of function space.

Lake Tahoe

  • Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe finished a $20 million renovation of its 398 guest rooms, which now feature a design that reflects the mountain feel of the property. The Hyatt also completed a $500,000 upgrade to its seven meeting rooms in 2011.
  • The former Embassy Suites Lake Tahoe Hotel and Ski Resort is now an independent property, operating as the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. The 400-room, all-suite hotel offers 10,000 square feet of meeting space and will undergo renovations.
  • Last summer, Boreal Mountain Resort opened Woodward Tahoe, an extreme-sports facility offering instructional programs and classes. During the summer season, skate parks, indoor trampolines and dirt bike jumps are open, and the 33,000-square-foot facility runs ski and snowboard camps in the winter.
