Q&A with Detroit Venture Partners' Josh Linkner

What are a few of your favorite things about living in Detroit?
The food and live music scenes are both incredibly vibrant and interesting. I can always go out for an inventive culinary experience, followed by great concerts, any night of the week. Saying I’ll stay home because there’s nothing to do is simply laziness.

What is your company’s mission?
We’re a Detroit-based venture capital firm on a mission to help rebuild our hometown through entrepreneurial fire.

What must groups experience while meeting in Detroit?
Friday night at Cliff Bell’s, where the live jazz is second to none and the Art Deco ambiance is a sight to behold. The highly recommended Detroit Dirty Martini is the perfect complement to your listening pleasure.

The Saturday morning Eastern Market, the nation’s oldest operational public market, is bustling with thousands of people flooding the area for fresh produce, handmade specialty foods and plants.

And Madison Theatre, a historic building, is now home to dozens of startups in a modern, urban environment and has become an entrepreneurial hotbed. Detroit Venture Partners is proud to call this space home.

How do you envision Detroit in the future?
I will be telling my grandkids about this five-year period in which Detroit got its mojo back. I envision a bright future, bolstered by entrepreneurial activity, lifestyle boosts and a pedestrian-friendly mecca in a newly revitalized downtown urban core. This will once again be one of America’s greatest cities.
