Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Raises Funds for Local Charities

Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association reported that its 35th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised $1,671,426 for local organizations in the Hawaiian community, setting a new record. Maui led the islands in fundraising, with $701,716.

More than 14,700 people participated statewide, walking on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii Island.

Since the first Charity Walk in 1978, the event has raised more than $26 million. Last year’s recipient charities included Aloha Independent Living, Hawaii Opera Theater, the Honolulu Zoological Society, Special Olympics Hawaii and the Moanalua Gardens Foundation.
