1. Tell us something surprising about yourself?
I’m an introvert. I like to come in, do the job and go home. Speaking is a role that’s thrust upon me. I don’t need the attention.
2. What was your first meeting with Steve Jobs like?
I was totally intimidated. I was a schlepper in the jewelry manufacturing business meeting the founder of one of the hottest companies in America, and I did not have a technical background. I don’t think he thought very much of me. And he was right for that particular job. Six months later I was brought in for the software evangelist job and got it. I don’t think there was a second interview. Steve’s attitude with the person who hired me (who was my roommate in college) was, “It’s up to you. It’s your ass on the line.”
3. What’s the strangest experience you’ve had when addressing a group?
I once spoke on a revolving stage for a company. This was very difficult because making eye contact with a constantly moving audience is difficult.
4. What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you on the road?
The funniest consistent thing that happens is that people thank me for changing their lives by writing Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Unfortunately, I didn’t write Rich Dad, Poor Dad. I’m closer to “Poor Dad, Poor Dad.”
