Calgary Reeling from Massive Floods

CALGARY, Alberta

Calgary and Alberta are reeling from some of the most intense flooding in the area’s history, although as of Tuesday morning the worst of the onslaught appeared over, with the city entering a recovery phase.

Evacuation orders were being lifted in increments across the city, and power had been returned to a substantial portion of the downtown.

Even with those bright spots, the Premier of Alberta, Alison Redford, cautioned a total cleanup of the province could take up to 10 years.

Despite the fallout from the natural disaster, Calgary Stampede officials have indicated the yearly spectacle celebrating western heritage and values will move forward as planned for its 101st celebration, slated to take place July 5-14.
