New and renovated hotels and groups venues grace Hawaii

Hawaii’s Big Island

  • The Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel in Kona put the finishing touches on a $42 million renovation with the opening of Honu’s, a waterfront restaurant offering indoor and outdoor dining. The resort offers 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor function space.
  • The Fairmont Orchid Hawaii on the Kohala Coast completed a renovation of its 136-seat amphitheater. It now features a 16-foot-by-nine-foot screen, high-tech audiovisual amenities and Wi-Fi.
  • The historic Volcano House, located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, reopened in June following an extensive renovation and retrofit by the National Park Service. Refurbishments were made to the 33 guest rooms, retail space and restaurant offering panoramic views of Halemaumau Crater.

Kauai

  • The Grand Hyatt Kauai wrapped up a refurbishment of its 37 suites, marking the completion of a property-wide guest room renovation that included environmentally friendly additions such as ceiling fans, low-flow toilets and recycled materials.
  • Alaska Airlines launched nonstop service between San Diego and Lihue June 7. The new flight is offered daily during the peak summer months and then four times per week.

Maui

  • At press time, the 15-acre Andaz Maui at Wailea was expected to open in July. The LEED-certified resort, situated on Mokapu Beach, will feature 297 guest rooms and suites, including seven luxury villas; a full-service spa with an adults-only pool, retail and fitness facility; more than 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space; and two restaurants.
  • The Hyatt Regency Maui unveiled a redesigned lobby area with pod-style registration and concierge desks and an expansive observation deck overlooking the Pacific. Earlier changes included updated guest rooms and a new restaurant and sushi lounge, Japengo.

Oahu

  • JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina recently completed a multimillion-dollar renovation that included the 35,000-square-foot Ihilani Spa. The spa now offers a new menu featuring services such as Oxygen Facials and the “Just-for-You Massage” that includes a variety of massage styles.
  • Turtle Bay Resort embarked on a multimillion-dollar renovation of all of its 397 standard and premium guest rooms and hallways, the Spa Luana and fitness center and two restaurants. The project will also include improvements to the main building. The renovation will be completed in phases this year to minimize impact on guests.
  • The Shoreline Hotel Waikiki opened in April. The property offers 135 guest rooms and Cha Cha Cha, a restaurant serving Mexican-Caribbean cuisine.
  • The Hotel Renew by Aston opened in June. The 72-room boutique property, which offers a spa, fitness center and two pools, is the eighth Waikiki property managed by Aston Hotels & Resorts.
  • Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii made enhancements to its rewards and recognition program for meeting planners. Planners who book a meeting at participating resorts by March 31, 2014, can earn one elite room night credit for every 10 group rooms booked.
