'49er Fever' benefits Santa Clara, Calif., business

Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium, future home of the San Francisco 49ers, will feature open pedestrian plazas, commercial community spaces, a 49ers team store and a 49ers Hall of Fame, but the facility will cater to much more than professional football. The stadium is functionally designed to be used for a wide range of events, including professional and college football, soccer, motocross, concerts and civic functions. The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl college football classic between the Big 10 and the Pac 12 will be played annually at the new stadium beginning in December 2014.

“The new Levi’s Stadium impact on Santa Clara as a leisure and business destination will be tremendous,” says David Andre, vice president of marketing and communications for the Santa Clara CVB. “The city will become internationally known once Super Bowl 50 is held here. Also, the city will soon host major sporting events, including NFL football, college football, motocross and much more. All these upcoming events will bring significantly more leisure business to Santa Clara and put us firmly on the radar of meeting and event planners.”

In addition, Levi’s Stadium incorporates photovoltaic panels, a green roof, convenient bicycle parking, walking path access from the San Tomas Creek Trail, water-conserving plumbing fixtures, sophisticated building control systems, recycled materials and a long list of other sustainable design concepts. The main entry plaza at the northwest corner of the stadium will be open to the public year-round, providing striking views of the playing field as well as an opportunity for casual refreshment and premier retail and community space.

For groups, the stadium will also feature 100,000 square feet of event space, wide plazas, 165 luxury suites and numerous creative possibilities. The sky is the limit. Andre says groups should definitely consider the possibilities of using both the convention center and the football stadium as component parts of one overall package.

“We hope to see a lot of synergy between the new Levi’s Stadium and the Santa Clara Convention Center, with both being an asset for the other,” he says.
