Delaware's Historic New Sweden Colony

This year marks the 375th anniversary of the founding of the New Sweden Colony in Delaware, when the Swedish, Dutch and German passengers aboard the Kalmar Nyckel landed on the shores of the Delaware River in 1638.

A recreation of “the tall ship of Delaware” can be rented for sailing excursions and booked for historic tours. The ship accommodates up to 49 passengers or 90 people for a dockside reception.

Groups can also tour the Old Swede House and Hendrickson House, the oldest surviving buildings in Wilmington.

Themed tours include pirate excursions on the Kalmar Nyckel, a ghostly graveyard visit to Old Swedes Church or a musical program starring the church’s historic pipe organ.
