Illinois
The opening of the 247-room Thompson Chicago hotel is set for October. Located in the Gold Coast neighborhood, the property will offer more than 12,000 square feet of meeting space and views of Lake Michigan. Private dining rooms and six bi-level penthouses will accommodate upscale events.
The opening of the Langham Chicago marks the brand’s fourth property in the U.S. The 316-room property is located in the former IBM tower, designed by architect Mies van der Rohe and built in 1973. The Langham offers 15,000 square feet of event space and is close to the Loop and the Chicago waterfront.
Kansas
The museum at Overland Park’s large new Prairiefire development will welcome its first rotating exhibit from New York City’s American Museum of Natural History, when The World’s Largest Dinosaurs exhibition goes on display this month.
Michigan
The Crowne Plaza Detroit Downtown Convention Center is now open, adding 367 guest rooms to the city’s inventory. The hotel is adjacent to the Cobo Center convention complex, which is currently wrapping up a large renovation. The Crowne Plaza offers 10,000 square feet of function space, nine meeting rooms and an executive level floor and lounge.
Minnesota
The 645-room Hyatt Regency Minneapolis completed Phase II of its major renovation and now boasts more than 100,000 square feet of function space, including two new ballrooms; Northstar and Great Lakes.
Ohio
Crowne Plaza Columbus North–Worthington completed a $5.3 million property renovation, updating its 300 guest rooms, lobby and meeting spaces. The property updated all 20,000 square feet of prefunction and event spaces, as well as the 4,800-square-foot grand pavilion, which is popular for receptions.
Marriott’s Courtyard Cincinnati Midtown/Rookwood opened, offering 123 guest rooms and the brand’s new flexible lobby design.
Wisconsin
The 20-story, 381-room Potawatomi Bingo Casino Hotel is under construction in Milwaukee and set to be completed next summer. The $150 million project includes a restaurant and other amenities. The casino includes more than 3,000 slot machines, 100 table games and a 500-seat theater.
Peoria’s Marriott Pere Marquette is now open, following years of restoration. The 86-year-old property offers 286 guest rooms and more than 18,000 square feet of function space.
