“Houston is incredibly hospitable, dynamic and business-friendly,” says Robbins, an internationally recognized cardiac surgeon who has headed up Texas Medical Center (TMC), the world’s largest medical complex, since November 2012.
Among TMC’s 54 member institutions are 21 renowned hospitals; three public health organizations; two universities; three medical schools; six nursing programs; two pharmacy schools; a dental school; and eight academic and research institutions.
“More than 20 TMC member institutions have contributed $1.8 billion in life sciences research,” Robbins says. “Ranked 10th globally for patents by city, Houston has more than 160 biotechnology companies and academic partnerships. The Brookings Institution is predicting that Houston will be the next great center of development for biotechnology and the life sciences.”
