Hip Hood: Hampden, Baltimore

A weekend outing should start at Union Craft Brewing, which is open to the public for free tours and tastings every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This 20-barrel brewhouse, which celebrated its one-year anniversary in July, features Duckpin Pale Ale and Balt Altbier, a German-style old school ale.

After a tasty toast, groups can start shopping. Ma Petite Shoe, purveyor of designer shoes and artisan chocolates from around the world, would no doubt be one of Carrie Bradshaw’s first stops in Baltimore. There is also a selection of shoes for men, adorable slippers for children, a variety of accessories and Choux, a cafe specializing in baked goods and salads right next door.

At Corradetti Glassblowing Studio & Gallery groups can browse a selection of clear, black and white glass creations, and arrange a private hands-on glassblowing workshop to make a takeaway memento. The venue is also available for group gatherings, including cocktail-style buffet receptions for up to 90 people.

Lovely Yarns is a retail yarn shop offering a fun variety of classes and exclusive patterns for everything from baby booties to scarves. Here, attendees can pick a comfy chair, have a cup of coffee and knit.

Woodberry Kitchen, a farm-to-table restaurant led by Spike Gjerde, a James Beard finalist for Best Chef Mid-Atlantic, is the perfect place to break bread after an afternoon of Hampden exploration. The menu includes Tilghman Island Crab Cake, as well as entrees featuring scallops and turkey kielbasa, and the restaurant has a private dining hall seating up to 42 people.
