Recent openings, upgrades and renovations in Northeast Florida (2013)

Amelia Island

The Amelia Hampton Inn at the Beach recently unveiled a dining room makeover featuring an ocean theme with “aged” dock wood and new beachy decor. The 71-room property offers meeting space for up to 30.

The Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort launched three new excursions: a 90-minute paddleboarding tour of the surrounding marshes, an archery challenge and teen-friendly mini-Segway tours. The resort also recently put the wraps on an $85 million renovation, adding new rooms and suites, a new restaurant and lounge, more meeting space and what is touted as the largest poolscape in Northeast Florida.

Jacksonville

Reopening in August after extensive updates, the Aloft Jacksonville Tapestry Park features loft-style guest rooms, free Wi-Fi and a separate meeting annex with 3,600 square feet of space.

The Holiday Inn Baymeadows rebranded as the Ramada Jacksonville/Baymeadows Hotel & Conference Center, offering over 9,000 square feet of event space, a 24-hour business center and roundtrip shuttle service to and from Jacksonville International Airport.

The Fairfield Inn & Suites Jacksonville Airport recently unveiled renovated guest rooms featuring luxurious bedding, flat-panel TVs and free wireless Internet.

St. Augustine/Ponte Vedra

In Ponte Vedra Beach, the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa will complete a multimillion-dollar refresh this fall, including a new restaurant, Vernon’s, renovated accommodations, a new golf cart path to the adjacent TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse and upgraded meeting space.

St. Augustine’s newest attraction also doubles as great event space. A living history museum in the heart of the city’s historic district, the Colonial Quarter brings the past to life with storytelling and hands-on demonstrations, while for group events and private parties, an amphitheater seats more than 250 at family-style tables.
