St. Louis' new Ballpark Village will be a magnet for group fun

Baseball is big in St. Louis—and about to get even bigger, with a new entertainment district project in the works that has amazing potential for group fun.

Ballpark Village, a sprawling and spectacular seven-block compound of shopping, entertainment, lodging and more, is now slated for an April 2014 launch at its central location just north of Busch Stadium, home to MLB's Cardinals.

A major highlight of the happening new hood will be Cardinal Nation, a 35,000-square-foot venue split between a trio of tempting offerings: a spacious restaurant, a Cardinals Hall of Fame and Museum, and a rooftop deck seating more than 300 and boasting sweeping views of the on-field action across the way.

Other lures include PBR St. Louis, a shimmering cowboy bar set to launch for the Cards' opening game in 2014; the massive Budweiser Brew House, with more than 100 brews on tap and a spacious open-air beer garden; and the Live! Marketplace, designed as the central hub of the new district and showcasing state-of-the-art big-screens, seating areas and refreshments.

"We're very excited," says Donna Andrews, public relations director for the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission, of the ambitious project that has been in the works for several years. "It's been a long time coming!"
